Crews dealing with water line breaks
BLOOMINGDALE–Crews are dealing with a major water line break running under U.S. Route 22, affecting customers in Bloomingdale, Crestview, Belvedere and Valley View, Jefferson Water and Sewer District Director Mike Eroshevich said.
He said Valley View and Bloomingdale will lose water, while Belvedere and Valley View will lose pressure.
“Nobody is out of water yet, but we have to replace about 400 feet of water line under a four-lane highway, so it will affect a lot of people,” Eroshevich said.
Hopedale residents will be more indirectly affected, he said. The village has its own tank but the county supplies it. Eroshevich said they’re looking at another source.
Eroshevich said the county’s crew is tied up in Amsterdam so they hired an outside contractor. He said it’s not an easy fix.
“They have to pull 400 feet of pipe out, then they have to fuse that 400 feet of pipe and push it back in, then connect it on both ends,” Eroshevich said. “The contractor, Border Patrol, is working around-the-clock, but to get it fixed, that won’t be until tomorrow.”
He said the pipe is in a steel casing which “pretty much saved the day.”
“When the water got out of the pipe it stayed in the casing, otherwise it could have damaged the highway,” he said.
Bottled water being distributed
WEIRTON — Bottled water is being made available this afternoon for Weirton Heights residents currently without water service.
The distribution will be available daily, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Gilson Avenue Fire Station, 3312 Cove Road, until further notice.
Multiple line breaks in the city, including a major line servicing the Weirton Heights area, have caused outages throughout that part of the city.
Residents must provide proof of address to obtain the water. Those residents who still have water service are asked to carefully conserve water.
Hancock school board to meet
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Board of Education will meet both in special and regular session Monday.

Both meetings will be held at the John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center.
