Electrical issues suspected in Wednesday fire in Chester

CHESTER – Fire officials suspect electrical issues caused a Wednesday morning blaze which damaged several buildings in the River Street area.

According to Chester Volunteer Fire Chief John Hissam, members of his department were dispatched around 7:42 a.m. for a structure fire involving an attached garage at 550 River St.

Neighboring structures and a vehicle parked outside the garage also sustained damage.

No injuries were reported, and Hissam put the damage estimates at $75,000.

He added the primary structure, a garage attached to the first house, was a block garage containing no heating elements, leading officials to believe electrical issues led to the fire.

All buildings were insured, according to Hissam.

In addition to Chester, firefighters from Newell and Lawrenceville volunteer fire departments also were on scene, clearing around 10 a.m.
