Pleas entered in Brooke sex abuse case

WELLSBURG — A Wellsburg man interrupted the selection of a jury for his trial Tuesday by entering guilty pleas to three crimes for which he was charged.

Glenn Allen Adams, 40, of Wellsburg pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree sexual assault, first-degree sexual abuse and incest.

Adams is expected to return, at a date to be determined, for sentencing by 1st Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jason Cuomo, pending a pre-sentence investigation and psychological evaluation ordered by the judge.

Penalties for the three crimes, under state law, are 10 to 25 years in prison, a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 or both for second-degree sexual assault; 1 to 5 years in prison, a fine not more than $10,000 or both for first-degree sexual abuse; and 5 to 15 years in prison, a fine of $500 to $5,000 or both for incest.

After entering his pleas, Adams was remanded to the Northern Regional Jail.

Adams had been indicted on two counts each for the two crimes and four counts of sexual abuse by a custodian for alleged sexual contact with a minor in his care in 2021.

Had the trial proceeded, Brooke County Prosecuting Attorney Allison Cowden had been slated to present testimony by a Brooke County sheriff’s deputy assigned to the case and the juvenile victim.
