Young writers

During its March 10 meeting, the Hancock County Board of Education recognized its county-level winners in the West Virginia Young Writers Contest, a statewide competition recognizing the writing of students from first through 12th grade. County winners were, from left, Macie Murray of A.T. Allison Elementary, representing third and fourth grade; Quinn Showalter of New Manchester Elementary, representing first and second grade; Chad Ringo of Oak Glen Middle, representing fifth and sixth grade; Christian Francis of Oak Glen High School, representing 11th and 12th grade; Kairi Thornburg of Oak Glen High School, representing ninth and 10th grade; and Abigail Glyptis of Weir Middle School, representing seventh and eighth grade. Their entries are now submitted for consideration at the state level of the competition. — Craig Howell
