Weirton Hall of Fame seeking nominations

WEIRTON — With the start of the year, the Weirton Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations for a new class of honorees.

“We’re looking for individuals from Weirton who have significant, outstanding accomplishments who have distinguished themselves for the benefit of our community,” Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam said during Monday’s meeting of Weirton Council, in announcing the opening of the hall of fame’s nomination period.

Individuals may be nominated in one of six categories for consideration of induction into the hall, including philanthropy; public service; music and fine arts; business, industry and professions; education and religion; and sports and athletics.

To qualify, a nominee must be either a current or former resident of Weirton, having lived in the city for a minimum of five years since Weirton’s incorporation in 1947.

The deadline to submit a nomination for the Class of 2026 will be April 1, with forms available in Room 207 of the Weirton Municipal Building, as well as online.

“You may find those forms on the City of Weirton website,” Pulliam said.

The city’s website is www.cityofweirton.com.

Forms may be mailed to 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062, or dropped off to Room 207. Envelopes must be marked ATTN: Weirton Hall of Fame Committee.

The Weirton Hall of Fame was established through action by Weirton Council in 2008 as a way to honor the contributions of its residents past and present.
