Kenneth P. Hass, 84, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Valley Hospice, Steubenville, OH.
In his final days, he was in the company of his family and enjoyed last conversations with them, as he had all his life. He is forever missed, and always remembered for his kindness, patience, wide curiosity, intelligence, generosity, and strong mind and big heart that held out until the very end.
Ken (or Kenny) was born September 17, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he enjoyed skating and playing hockey, skiing, and racing his convertible Jaguar XK140. He received his BS and MS in metallurgical engineering from the University of Minnesota, and in 1959 he started work with the Research and Development division of National Steel, in Weirton, WV. There he met his future wife Loretta Jean Bezak Hass; the two married in 1960. Ken worked as an engineer and then in management, retiring in 1994. Ken was a member of Cove Presbyterian Church.
In his retirement, he served for a time on the Weirton Planning Commission, continuing his habit of contributing his efforts to various activities. He also continued to enjoy such hobbies as reading, watching documentaries, listening to Big Band music of his childhood, following the Pirates and Steelers, doing crossword puzzles, caring for the family cats, and spending time with his extended family.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Eva Killian Hass, and by his grandson Mitchell Kenneth Hass. He is survived by his wife Loretta, his young brother Gerald, his sons Jeffrey (Irina) and Stephen (Julie), and his grandchildren Daniel and Peter, and Benjamin and Megan.
As per his request, a private family ceremony will celebrate Ken’s life. The survivors ask that those desiring to send flowers, instead to make a contribution to a charity of their choice in Ken’s name.
