Karen L. Tate, 78, of New Cumberland, WV passed away Tuesday June 23, 2020 at Weirton Medical Center.
She was born December 2, 1941 in Weirton, WV, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth McGough McAbee.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Allen “Budge” McAbee.
Karen was an active member of Paris Presbyterian Church for 65+ years. Through the years she served in the choir, Sunday school teacher, faithful servants class, elder, deacon, Stephen ministry, Church Women United; where she was awarded the Valiant Woman Award in 2015.; TOPS No.1476 Paris; 20 year member of New Cumberland PTA; Weirton Chapter No.147 OES, Past President of Junior AREME, Point Pleasant Ladies Aide, Hancock County Retired School Employees Association. Karen retired from the Hancock County Board of Education as an executive secretary.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Sammie L. Tate; sons, Jeffrey Tate (Denise) of Mingo Junction, OH, Douglas Tate (Selena) of Canfield, OH, Andrew Tate (Jennifer) of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren, Gary “Bub” Hellock, Jenna Stuart, Xavier and Malachi Tate, Jameson Tate; sisters, Laurene Ragan (John) of Avella, PA, Ellen Croce (late Dominic) of Follansbee, WV; sister-in-law, Irene McAbee of State College, PA; brother, Donald McAbee (Elmira) of Follansbee, WV. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday June 25, 2020 at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV where the funeral will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Christina Hosler presiding. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. OES service will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
