Jack Stevens

Jack Stevens, 82, of Weirton, WV passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020, in the comfort of his home. His loving family was at his side.

Jack and his twin sister were born on November 7, 1937, in Middlebourne, WV to Charles and Virginia Rush Stevens. They were two of ten children born to the Stevens family.

When Jack was around ten years old his family moved from Middlebourne, WV to Weirton WV so Jack’s father could work at Weirton Steel. Jack’s family lived in Haller Park section of Weirton and Jack attended School in Colliers, WV, prior to his employment at Weirton Steel.

While working at the mill, Jack and his friend Jim went to see a movie at the Cove Theatre on Halloween Night 1955. This is where he sat next to young Carla Hesse. They dated, fell in love, he joined the United States Marines Corps, and they were married in less than a year on September 29, 1956. Carla moved to be with Jack in Jacksonville, FL, and then to Cherry Point, NC before eventually moving back to Weirton for Jack to continue his career at Weirton Steel.

Jack worked at Weirton Steel for 38 years where he was an inspector on the number four galvanized line in the Sheet Mill and a Union Stewart for 3 years. His wife Carla took care of their home. In their 63 plus years of marriage, they were blessed with five children, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren.

Jack loved the outdoors especially spending time at his cabin in Tyler County. He cherished the time he spent there riding his quad, hunting with his hunting dogs, and fishing on Muddy Creek. He also enjoyed golfing and playing cornhole.

But nothing compared to the time Jack got to spend with his family. He loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing euchre and pinochle with his wife and kids, or just sitting around the house telling stories or sharing ornery jokes. He was a great storyteller and loved making others laugh.

Most of all, Jack will be remembered as an all- around great family guy who was always willing to give to others. He was fun to be with.

Jack was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil, Ray, Norman Charles and Leslie Stevens, and his sisters, Pearl Wade and Eunice Stevens.

Jack will be remembered with love by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Carla Hesse Stevens, his son, Brad (Jodi Heupp) Stevens of New Cumberland, WV; his four daughters, Marjorie (Max) Bernal of Pueblo, CO, Lisa (Gregory) Ciotti, Connie and Jennifer Stevens all of Weirton, WV; his twin sister, Joann McSwegin; his brother, Ronald (Linda) Stevens; his twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and his two great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday. Rev. William Stout will preside.

Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV.
