George Michael Korbel, 85, of New Cumberland, WV went to be with our Lord, Friday, April 2, 2021 at Weirton Medical Center after a very brief illness.
He was born on October 21, 1935 in Weirton, WV to the late Joseph and Mary Korbel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Korbel; and two brothers, Rodolph Korbel and Joseph Korbel II.
George was a life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He had a strong love for his wife Judy of 59 years and his family and friends. An avid reader, George also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and gun trading.
Along with his wife Judy they enjoyed frequent golf outings with their friends and traveling.
George is survived by his wife, Judith Kaye (Driehorst) Korbel. He leaves two daughters, Lori Kaye (Korbel) Blankenship and her husband Dr. Larry Blankenship M.D.; Joanna Lynn (Korbel) Cecil and her fiance Steve Barber. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Megan Wynne (Blankenship) Bryant and her husband Joshua; Elyse Noelle (Blankenship) Poor and her husband Scott; and a grandson Larry Nathaniel Blankenship.
George graduated from West Liberty in Accounting and worked for Weirton Steel Corporation in Sales and Production Planning for 42 years. He retired in 2000.
Friends may call Monday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Turley Funeral Home.
Services will be there Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sharmune Burgess officiating. Interment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens in Newell, WV.
