DAVID MYERS

David Leon Myers, born June 4th, 1949, left this world unexpectedly on October 10th, 2022 at the age of 73 years old, a few days into a month long vacation with his wife to New England. He passed from a heart attack.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio, David grew up in Weirton, WV with his parents Henry and Celina (Monseau) Myers and five siblings.

A hard worker, his first job was in a bakery at the age of 12, followed by various other jobs in an effort to help support his family. In his young adult years, he enjoyed baseball, boxing, karate and loved going to dances. He earned his GED and later became employed by Weirton Steel and worked there for 34 years, mainly in heavy equipment. During these years, he and his first wife Judy (Waggoner) Myers, raised two children, Christina (Christy) and Juliana (Julie), supporting them in their school and extracurricular activities while giving them a warm and loving childhood. Even while working different shifts in the mill, he made it a priority to attend events, often using lunch breaks to stand at a mill gate to watch his daughters in a parade or at a football game. He was an extraordinary father and so thrilled to become a grandfather to Bowen.

Upon retirement in 2004 and pulled by warmer weather, he and his second wife Sue Ann lived in Florida and western South Carolina before eventually settling at the beach in Pawleys Island, SC. He spent the past several years enjoying retirement as it should be: fishing, golfing, swimming and traveling throughout the country. On an almost daily basis, he could be found on a dock fishing at Litchfield by the Sea. Because he was there so often, he met vacationers and locals alike and would often assist them with their bait and tackle, giving of his time and knowledge so they could have a successful day. He gave away as many fish as he kept and found great enjoyment in meeting and helping others.

Throughout his life, David gave of his time to others and could be counted on by friends and family, whether helping with a move, Meals on Wheels or a project around the house. He embraced spending time with his family and friends. He really never met a stranger and could make a genuine connection with those he met, wherever he went. He had an easygoing nature and looked to enjoy life and make others happy. He was one in a million and will be missed dearly by many.

Left to grieve his loss are his wife Sue Ann, his daughter Juliana (Adam) Riley and grandson Bowen Riley. Two sisters, Elizabeth Kelly of Vinton, VA and Diana (Paul) Cunningham of Weirton, WV, and a brother Hubert (Peggy) Myers of Mineral, VA, brother in law Brad (Kimmi) Hudson and several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Christy, two sisters, Beatrice (Bob) Mercer and Rose (Russell) Isner, brother in law Pete Kelly, a nephew Kevin Myers as well as his parents Henry and Celina Myers.

Upon his wishes, David did not want funeral services. Instead, a Celebration of Life is planned for November 12th, 2022 at the Weirton Millsop Community Center in Weirton, WV from 11-3 for friends and family. From 2-3 o’clock, stories, tributes and memories will be shared from anyone wanting to speak about David. A second Celebration of Life will occur after the new year in Pawleys Island, SC.

Memorial contributions can be made to Castforkids.org in David’s memory.
