MARK CHADWICK

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, a great man entered heaven. He was neither a statesman nor a king, but his importance lies in the indelible mark he made on the hearts of all who were blessed to have met, known, and loved him. Like Jesus before him, he walked through this life exuding pure love and grace, and, like our dear Pope Francis, he showed empathy for all.

Mark Stephen Chadwick was born on August 19, 1958, as a special-needs child with Down syndrome to Robert “Bob” Vincent Chadwick and Rebecca “Becky” Elizabeth (Hughes) Chadwick. His early years were spent at the School of Bright Promise, and as an adult, he attended the Jeffco Adult Services Program, where he was awarded the title “Man of the Year.” Mark retired in 2008 due to health issues. After the passing of his parents, he moved to California to live with his sister and her family, where he resided seven years until his passing.

They say it takes a village, and so it did. To all the family, friends, and neighbors who have been so kind to our family– especially to Mark–we will be forever grateful. Although our careers and lives took us far from Toronto, we always found solace in knowing that Mark was in a very special place: Toronto.

Mark leaves behind his sister, Mary Colleen (Tim, deceased) Anderson of Yorba Linda, CA, and his brother, Robert “Bobby” Lawrence (Abby) Chadwick of Parkville, MO. He is also survived by three nieces and one nephew: Ashley (Jeff) Girard of Lansing, KS; Andrew (Gretchen) Chadwick of Arlington, VA; Susan (Erik) Hand of Alexandria, VA; and Kristen (Ryan) Genarro of Thousand Oaks, CA. Additionally, he leaves behind two very special aunts, Marie (Hughes, Keenan) Bernabei and Wanda (Moe) Hughes, both of Toronto, along with 5 great nephews, one very special great niece and 28 cherished first cousins and their families.

So, with a firm handshake and that ever-present twinkle in his eye, we can be assured that Mark greeted Saint Peter on that beautiful spring day with, “Hello! Mark Chadwick, here!”

A memorial visitation honoring Mark’s life will be held Saturday July 12th from 11 am to 1 pm at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto.

Following Mark’s visitation there will be an interment of Mark’s cremation at the Toronto Union Cemetery.
