Make good use of early voting

Election Day may officially be Nov. 4, but beginning today West Virginia residents can go ahead and cast their ballots as part of the early voting period offered throughout the Mountain State.

For years, West Virginia offered absentee ballots to those who were disabled, serving in the military or away from the state for schooling. In recent years, the idea was expanded to allow anyone interested in voting early to do so, without a specific reason.

Hancock County residents may vote by visiting the Hancock County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Brooke County residents can do so by visiting the Brooke County Courthouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The early voting period will conclude Nov. 1.

Early voting is a great opportunity for our residents to make sure they are still able to participate in the election process, especially if they are unsure they will be able to make it to their polling site on Election Day itself.

All it takes is a few minutes of your time, whether it is on your lunch break, after work or on the weekend.

Taking part in our elections is an important part of being an American. It helps to give us a voice in how our country is governed and operated.

It is our responsibility to use that voice by casting our votes for our selected candidates or issues.

We encourage all of our residents who are registered voters, no matter which candidates you like best, make use of this opportunity to let your voices be heard.
