Congratulations young leaders

Our youth are the future of the Ohio Valley, and any chance to see them grow as they prepare for the years ahead should be celebrated.

That is why it is good to see another group of high school sophomores complete their journey as part of this year’s class of Youth Leadership Weirton. The annual program is offered through the auspices of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Youth Leadership provides sophomores from Weir, Madonna, Oak Glen and Brooke high schools with a chance to learn more about themselves and others, techniques on overcoming differences in the workplace, teamwork, setting goals and ethics.

They began their year last September with a ropes course at Elkhorn Valley, where they bonded and learned to work together, continued with a True Colors exercise learning about different types of personalities and how they can be balanced, learned about having a vision for the road ahead, as well as the importance of integrity, and concluded with a SIMSOC exercise.

Sunday, the class was joined by family in celebrating their accomplishments.

We offer our congratulations to this year’s class, consisting of Taylor Allison, Addie Backel, Evan Boniti, Allyson Brothers, Kelsey Crawford, Andrea Dawson, Peri Dimitriou, Carly Dowiak, Autumn Duckworth, John Ewing, Jonathan Golden, Morgan Grant, Jaedyn Hissam, Maria Kamarados, Dylan Kolb, Ethan Littell, Ava Loch, Isabel Loch, Riley McAllister, Kennedy Martin, Emily Matteson, Gabrielle Mazzone, Lexus Melnyk, Rachel Miller, Brogan Moran, Caitlyn Munger, Abigail Myers, Devin Price, Peyton Price, Hannah Rogers, Autumn Shifflett, Chesney Warden, Mackenzie Waters and Matthew Wright.

We hope they are encouraged by their time in Youth Leadership to take a more active role in their schools and communities.

The chamber soon will be recruiting for next year’s class, and we encourage those eligible students to consider applying for their worthwhile and life-changing experience.
