Program provides chance for leadership
Leadership Ohio Valley is officially under way, with a class of 11 men and women from across the region hoping to make a difference in their communities.
Previously known as Leadership Weirton, the program is operated by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, and is open to business people throughout the Ohio Valley.
This year’s class, and their sponsors, is comprised of: DeeAnn Pulliam, City of Weirton; Alexis Russell, Follansbee Chamber of Commerce; Anthony Bernardi, Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home; Deidra Edwards, Hancock County Savings Bank; Kaylee Richter, Hancock County Savings Bank; Melissa Mikula, Howard Hanna; Joe Lombardi, Lombardi Development; Stephanie O’Brien, Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce; Kerri Freshwater, Weirton Geriatric Center; Tom Bowman, Weirton Heights Rotary; and Staci Breen, WMC Physician Practices.
Over the next several months, this group will learn more about local volunteer opportunities, education, business and economic development, healthcare, government, history and culture, as well as how to better work as a team.
They also will be tasked with organizing and implementing a service project in one of our local communities.
One of the things which makes Leadership Ohio Valley unique is that while the chamber and its designees may offer some guidance, each of the program’s sessions and projects are planned by the participants themselves. They work together and lead the way toward completing their experience, with the hope they will use the lessons from this program as they step into future roles.
We wish them well on their journey.
