Celebrate our history and culture
Residents of the Tri-State Area always have been proud of our ethnic heritage.
We love to celebrate our traditions, food and music in our homes, our neighborhoods, our churches and through countless other events and gatherings.
There will be a chance to take a trip around the world and experience much of what makes the numerous cultures that are found throughout the region unique Saturday at the Millsop Community Center when the Festival of Nations returns.
The 11th-annual event, which is organized by the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a variety of music, dancing and other entertainment representing several nationalities and cultures from around the world. Food vendors will be on hand, and informational displays will be set up.
This year’s festival chair is Kalpana Gupta. She and her committee of volunteers have put together what they anticipate will be an exciting day, one that can trace its origins to the 1930s and 1940s, when E.T. Weir organized an event to recognize the nationalities of the employees of Weirton Steel. Also helping to make the day possible is Weirton Medical Center, which returns as the major sponsor.
Our region is made up of people from many backgrounds. Those who live here can trace their ancestry through many centuries and to all parts of the world. Saturday’s Festival of Nations offers the chance to celebrate our rich histories, and we hope you will plan to attend.
