New leaders taking the stage

We commend the recent graduates of the Leadership Ohio Valley program, and hope this is not the last we will see of them.

The annual program, organized through the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, is a way to encourage local business representatives to get more involved in their communities by showing them opportunities to volunteer and take on roles within local organizations or public offices.

Over the last seven months, they have learned more about local government, education, healthcare, business and history, along with bonding through teamwork exercises and planning a group community service project which should be unveiled sometime in the coming weeks.

They participated in a mock council meeting, learned about the programs at the John D. Rockefeller Career Center and saw first-hand what efforts are being made to redevelop former industrial property in our region.

It is important for new faces to become involved in our communities, and for new ideas to be generated, in order for us to move forward.

By all accounts, this most recent class took their tasks to heart, thinking outside of the box to accomplish their goals and will do well on whatever path they choose.

We encourage them to continue to find ways to stay active in our area, and to help guide others who may wish to do the same.

We also thank the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce for providing this opportunity, just as it has for close to 30 years. This is a valuable program for our region, and we hope to see our local business community continue to support it for years to come.
