Celebrate our Community Stars

There are many threads that help connect each of our Community Stars.

One is that they are willing to step up and do the right thing, not because they are looking for recognition, but simply because it is the right thing to do.

They almost never seek the spotlight, some to the point that it can make it tough for a panel made up of editors and writers at the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times to make their selections. A few of this year’s honorees were at first reluctant to accept their award, saying they weren’t interested in calling attention to themselves.

That, however, is exactly what makes them deserving of the honor, and that’s what has made our annual dinner something special since it was first held in 1998. It’s a chance to recognize the people who freely give of their time, talents and abilities and whose actions touch the lives of thousands of Tri-State Area residents.

This year’s stars, who will be honored during today’s 6 p.m. dinner at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in downtown Steubenville include Mary Albaugh, Michael Berry, Chari Bills, Michael Bozzelli, Rhonda Clevenger, William Curenton, Sandy and Phil Judy, Madelynn McKinney, Dwayne Morley and John Schwertfeger.

Weirton Medical Center is the presenting sponsor of the event, with support from M&M Hardware.

We’re happy that this year’s nominees were willing to be honored, and we hope you will join us is recognizing the Community Stars of 2019.
