Crew deserving of praise for rescue
In June, a woman jumped from the Newell Bridge into the Ohio River.
Crew members of the towboat Alice Jean — Eileen Provins, James Blake Jr., Travis Neely and Jarrod Starkey — saw her and went immediately to her aid. Had they not done so, at some risk to themselves, “there was a strong possibility the subject may have drowned,” Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher noted this week.
This week, Fletcher and Hancock County commissioners honored the Alice Jean crew members.
They are richly deserving of praise. We join Hancock County officials — and, no doubt, the woman and her family — in commending them highly.
