Stop dangerous behavior, hazing
Some parents view sending sons and daughters off to college as a milestone for youngsters developing into mature adults. Many still have a long way to go, as they demonstrate by dangerous, sometimes vicious behavior.
Last week, officials at Marshall University in Huntington ordered all activities at a sorority be discontinued. Allegations of hazing and illegal drug use were cited.
Don’t smirk just yet, neighbors in Ohio: Also last week, Ohio University revealed it is investigating allegations of hazing involving the school’s marching band.
Stupidity — drug abuse, alcoholic binges, etc. — is bad enough. But intentionally inflicting harm on others is, well, vicious.
OU and Marshall officials are right to take decisive action. Self-destructive behavior and hazing by organized college groups needs to be stopped.
