Expanding voting opportunities

Good for state senators for acting quickly on a bill that fills a need for a substantial number of West Virginians. It is SB 94, which passed the Senate by a vote of 33-0 (with one senator absent).

SB 94 provides that disabled Mountain State residents who are registered to vote can cast absentee ballots electronically. Presumably, the same system Secretary of State Mac Warner pioneered successfully with those serving overseas in the military will be used.

As Warner has demonstrated, the technology exists for efficient, secure voting electronically, at a distance. SB 94 would make it possible for many people who could not get to the polls conveniently, or perhaps at all, to participate in elections.

Members of the House of Delegates should approve SB 94, too.
