Continue supporting the United Way

Our local United Ways and their member agencies will continue to need support from the people of the Ohio Valley, even as many of us are looking to regain our own footing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More residents have found themselves going to agencies such as the Salvation Army and Community Bread Basket for assistance, especially in the last couple of months. That makes it even more important for the Weirton United Way, which works tirelessly to raise funds for those organizations which look to serve those in the most need in the Weirton community.

That work will continue despite recent events, although the efforts will look different than what we are used to seeing.

Already canceled is the traditional United Way Golf Classic, which was to take place in June at Williams Golf and Country Club. Depending on our ability to rebound from the virus, other annual activities and fundraisers also could go by the wayside; at least for now.

In the meantime, the Weirton United Way is moving forward with plans to seek direct donations from residents instead of the community events we have come to know and appreciate. The funds raised through this year’s campaign will then go to those agencies in the most need as a result of the pandemic.

We have all been affected in some way by this virus, and that makes it more important than ever for those of us who are able to find a way to show our support for those who serve.

We encourage our residents to reach out to the United Way and see how you can continue to help.
