Keeping West Virginians safe during reopening

On Monday, week three of West Virginia’s business reopening campaign will permit drive-in movie theaters and certain “wellness” centers to resume operations.

Yes, that’s it. As Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s coronavirus response coordinator, explained Tuesday, “the aggressiveness of some of the reopenings” has been dialed back. … We know as we go back out again, we have to be extra careful.”

The sooner West Virginia can get back to work, the better — but not at the risk of allowing COVID-19 to come roaring back. Marsh and Gov. Jim Justice are absolutely right to take the slower, but surer route, monitoring the effect of reopening action already taken to ensure the state does not move too quickly.
