Weir bowlers had spectacular season
In its inaugural year, the Weir High School bowling team collected an astounding series of accomplishments, earning an undefeated record along with an OVAC championship and various singles accolades.
The young keglers were set to compete this week in the U.S. High School Bowling Championship this week in Dayton, Ohio; however, those plans, as with much this year, have been scrapped with the tournament’s cancellation as a result of the COVID pandemic.
Despite the disappointing end, the season needs to be recognized and celebrated. In an area where football is king, a group of high school students, many of whom have been bowling together for years through the local youth league, came forward with the idea of a high school team. They promoted themselves, held fundraisers to get things off the ground and hit the lanes every week to make sure they were at the top of their game. The community rallied around them, cheering along with each victory.
We add our applause, congratulating these young men and women, along with their coaches, on a spectacular season, and wishing them well as they move forward.
