Campaign off to a promising start
The Weirton United Way’s first — and, so far, only — fundraising event of the 2020 campaign is set for this weekend, and it already appears to be a success.
The annual Fall Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course, with officials announcing a full roster of teams set to hit the fairways.
Given current events, this is great news and shows that the community spirit of the Weirton area is alive and well. With a lack of events scheduled because of COVID, the Weirton United Way will need all the support possible for this year’s campaign. If the golf tournament is any indication, we don’t think that will be a problem.
Remember that every dollar raised through the Weirton United Way campaign stays local, benefiting organizations and programs tied directly to Weirton.
Whether it be the Salvation Army, Hancock County 4-H, Mary H. Weir Public Library, Weirton Christian Center, Healthways, Community Bread Basket or RSVP, each of the 12 member agencies included in the campaign offers services to thousands of area residents, and relies on the funds from the United Way.
We thank everyone involved in these agencies for their continued work to serve our area, as well as Linda Stear and everyone at the Weirton United Way for their constant efforts to support those who serve.
