Come together to illuminate Weirton

For the second year, the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce is working to “Illuminate Weirton.”

The chamber has been selling luminaria kits in recent weeks, to include a decorative bag and battery-powered light, with the hopes businesses and residents would come together to light up the streets of the community.

Last year’s efforts were a major success, with more than 5,000 kits sold, and the chamber wants to keep it going, reaching more of the community and helping to spread some holiday cheer.

Original plans were to have everyone place their luminaria in front of their homes or businesses Saturday evening. Expected weather, though, may move the light-up to Sunday. Whatever day, we still encourage the Weirton community to come together and light up the streets.

Just imagine, driving through many of our neighborhoods and business areas and seeing lights lining the sidewalks, porches and more, linking each area of the Weirton community and helping to spread some holiday cheer.

And if you have yet to purchase any luminaria, there are still some available. Just stop by the Weirton Chamber offices before the end of business today.

We thank the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce for bringing such a wonderful project to the community, and hope to see it continue to grow in the years to come.
