Weir cheerleaders off to states
To the Editor,
Congratulations to the Weir High cheerleaders on their first-place finish in the WVSSAC Region One, Class Class AA cheering competition held Nov. 5 at Wheeling Park High School.
The Weir High cheering squad competed against nine other teams comprising Region One and was nearly flawless in its performance before a huge contingent of Red Rider fans that turned out for this historic first regional cheering championship for the school.
Needless to say, the caravan home was a joy to be a part of, but the real treat and surprise for all was the greeting and escort by the Weirton Police Department from the Three Springs Drive interchange to Weir High School.
After a brief celebration at the school, the cheerleaders and fans made their way to Dee-Jays BBQ Ribs and Grille to continue celebrating the squad’s achievement.
The cheerleaders will compete in the SSAC state cheering competition to be held Dec. 10 in Charleston. The competition is comprised of the top two teams from each of the four regions.
Congratulations, again, to Amelia Adams, Sarah Bodrog, Alayna Degenhardt, Gianna DeVeechis, Lexus Ficca, Caroline Fodor, Macey Gump, McKenna Holt, Myranda Jensen, Isabella Kirlangitis, Mackenzie Rusinovich, MaKaila Taylor, Allina Varner, Kaleigh Cowden and Kali Potock. And, a special congratulations to first-year coach Nicolette Hill.
Good luck, Red Riders, on Dec. 10 in Charleston. Go cheerleaders.
