Support workers’ health
To the Editor,
I was shocked to hear that the Brooke County Board of Health is considering weakening our smoke-free air law. With this decision, our board members would put workers’ lives on the line.
We already know there’s no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Now, people will have to choose between their health and their income. No one should ever have to make that decision, regardless of where they work.
I know firsthand how cancer affects working families. I have had several family members affected by cancer, and it’s an incredibly scary feeling. We need to do more to reduce the number of families who went through what we did.
I’m deeply disappointed in our county health officials for considering this option and I urge other Brooke County residents to tell the board not to weaken our smoke-free laws and instead support worker health.
