The state of our nation

To the Editor,

I read this following statement a few years ago in the newspaper and was alarmed at the message. I kept a copy and wish to share it with you. This is a quote, written over 200 years ago.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by dictatorship.”

“The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progresed through this sequence.

From bondage to spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy to dependency; from dependency back to bondage.”

This was a quote by Sir Alex Tytler, 1714-1813, history professor, University of Edinburgh, written in the year 1778, over 200 years ago.

After watching the State of the Union address, and seeing the white coats in the audience, reminded me of the white sheets and the “hate” that was exhibited “then and now.” Was the history professor right? Are we going down the road that the history professor describes?

I would like to ask the Democrats in Congress this question. Are you for real, or is it just fantasy? Why did you invite “Satan to control Congress” and trying so hard to keep God out? Where are the Democrats outside Congress? Do you agree with this nonsense?
