From the Pulpit: Ten truths for which we can be thankful

We are living in tumultuous times. We can be tempted to focus on the negatives we see all around us. But even when times are tough, there are still moments to be thankful for, the simple things in life that we can be grateful for in times of turmoil.

2 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

During this season of Thanksgiving, let us remember these ten truths that we can be thankful for.

1. A roof over our heads — a shelter in times of storm!

2. Water and food on the table — I don’t have to go hungry!

3. Access to the internet — you have access to spot on knowledge!

4. Family and friends — they may not be perfect, but they are still precious gifts!

5. Our health — we may not feel like Superman and we may get sick, but God gave us another day to praise Him

6. Our faith in the Lord Jesus — we have Someone who walks and talks with us and goes with us through whatever trials we go through

7. The kindness of strangers — people we don’t even know, who hold the door open for us or speak a kind word to us and brighten our day

8. The beautiful things in life — the sunrise, the sunset, the woods, car drives, the lake, the river, our dog

9. Our setbacks — these formed us more into the image of Christ and made us stronger and able to stand when all else fails

10. We’re alive — we are here now, hopefully for a long time, and have the opportunity to live the life God has for us

So instead of focusing on the news or COVID or how bad things look around us, during this time of year, let us “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2a).”
