WEIRTON - A Wellsburg woman was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-car crash in southern Hancock County, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said.
Cara Nicoloan, 23, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian by helicopter from Weirton Medical Center, the sheriff's department said.
Nicoloan was attempting to turn left from Kings Creek Road onto state Route 2 at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a car driven by Edward J. Majoris, 52, of Weirton, who was northbound on Route 2, the sheriff's department said. There is a stop sign at Kings Creek Road.
Witnesses told investigating officers that Nicoloan failed to yield and pulled right in front of Majoris, said Deputy Scott Little.
"It was a high-speed impact," he said.
Majoris was taken to Weirton Medical Center with cuts and abrasions, Little said. Personnel with the Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad had to forcibly extricate Nicoloan from her 2008 Pontiac G5 because she was trapped.
Majoris was driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Deputy Chad Lamp is investigating the accident, and charges may be filed.
