Water project needed in county

October 6, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

More than 13,000 Brooke County residents and businesses will be able to rest a little easier knowing their water services will be more secure with an upcoming project.

The effort, once completed, will ensure a backup water supply for many water customers in Beech Bottom, Wellsburg and the Hammond Public Service District. These communities have, on many occasions, been stuck without water as a result of line breaks, mechanical failures, power outages and flooding.

By connecting the systems with new lines, however, that should all be a thing of the past.

It's something that has been in the planning stages for the last few years, and, thanks to the state of West Virginia and the Brooke County Commission, it appears as if the $170,000 project will finally be moving ahead.

This is welcome news, we are sure, for all those affected by these water outages.

It can never be an easy thing to deal with a lack of water, as we have all experienced at one point or another. There is little to no bathing, laundry or even cooking without this life-giving substance, not to mention the strain it puts on a community to have to arrange for emergency water supplies to be trucked in and distributed.

These worries will soon disappear, hopefully forever, and we thank everyone who has been involved in making it a reality.
