MINGO JUNCTION - Village Council met in special session behind closed doors Monday morning to discuss personnel matters regarding discipline.
Village Administrator Charley Bowman said there would be no public announcement regarding the personnel and discipline issue.
Ohio Public Works subcommittee meets
STEUBENVILLE - The local Ohio Public Works Commission subcommittee will meet at 10 a.m. Friday in the commissioners' office at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
The subcommittee is to review and rate OPWC grant/loan applications for 2013, according to officials.
Veterans Day program
planned in Unionport
UNIONPORT - A Veterans Day program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Unionport Community Center . The speaker will be Kathy Anderson. A tea will follow the program, hosted by the Unionport auxiliary.

Veterans Day program
set in Hickory, Pa.
HICKORY, Pa. - The Hickory Lions Club will sponsor its fourth-annual Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Allison Memorial Auditorium at the Mount Pleasant Township Community Center located at 20 Wabash Ave.
All veterans will be recognized, and, in a roll-call ceremony, 28 Hickory residents who died during their military service will be remembered by a family member, friend or Lion. The program is dedicated to the memory of the late John "Jack" Caldwell in recognition of his work in recognizing Hickory area veterans.
Hickory Lions Club members, Lay Pastor Arden McCartney, pianist Toni Sears, vocalist Carolyn Smith, the local Boy Scout Troop and area residents will participate. Refreshments will follow in the Rainbow Room.
All are welcome to attend.

DILLONVALE - The Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 is seeking comments on proposed slope improvements along state Route 150 east of Dillonvale.
The project will repair a slope failure just east of township Road 114 (Jug Run Road) by installing a 700-foot long retaining wall along the road's eastbound lane. Also included in the project are the replacement of two culverts and roadway resurfacing.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2014. Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction by utilizing part-width construction techniques. Minor new right of way will be required to complete the project.
ODOT is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental and economic impacts of this proposed project. Environmental impacts could include those involving archaeological, architectural and ecological resources, hazardous materials and the general location of the project.
Written comments concerning the project may be mailed to the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 11, Attention: Thomas E. Stratton, 2201 Reiser Avenue SE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. ODOT District 11 can also be contacted by telephone at (330) 339-6633. All comments must be submitted by Dec. 5.
EGCC spring registration now open
STEUBENVILLE - Registration for the spring semester is now open at Eastern Gateway Community College. The semester begins Jan. 14.
Current students are encouraged to meet with a faculty adviser or to see one of the college's professional advisers as soon as possible to review program requirements and classes that should be attempted next. They then will complete the enrollment process.
Incoming new students who already have applied to the college will be completing their free placement testing and going through orientation prior to being advised and registered by the college's professional advisers.
New students should contact the admissions office at (800) 68-COLLEGE, extension 212. New students will meet with an admissions recruiter to discuss transfer opportunities and/or career preparation programs in business, engineering and information technologies, health and public services.
