WEIRTON - The Nifty Needles Neighborhood Group of the American Sewing Guild Pittsburgh Chapter held their November meeting at the First Christian Church on Main Street.

Leader Carol Village welcomed the nine members in attendance. She reminded members to make their reservations for the guild Christmas Tea by Nov. 26. The tea will be held Dec. 1 at the Edgeware Country Club in Pittsburgh.

The Weirton-Wintersville groups will hold a joint Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Mill Creek Inn, near Reed's Mill. Members made reservations at the meeting.

During show-and-tell, Kay Nixon displayed a mug mat, trimmed sweater with hair-pin lace fleece; Nancy Linn, mug mat and fall quilted placemats; Dolly Grossman, iron caddy, casserole cover and quilted table runner; JoAnne Gorrell, mug mat; and Village, mug mat.

Susan Maze was awarded the door prize.

Grossman presented a program on braided rag rugs. Members were shown how to prepare fabric strips and what types of fabric to use. Each member was given a tool and fabric strips so they could begin a project, and Grossman demonstrated weaving the strips.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 1 at the church. Nancy Sanders will be leader in 2013, and she has asked members to volunteer to present programs.

For information, call Village at (304) 748-8573, Maze at (304) 723-2038 or Sanders at (304) 527-1405.
