Will government meet responsibility?

December 16, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

In America in 2011, where was the most dangerous place for a baby to be? Inside the mother's womb. The numbers confirm this.

Abortions kill roughly one out of every four babies conceived. Abortionists will kill more than a million babies this year. More than 3,000 of those babies will be killed today alone, with Planned Parenthood killing a third of them and using your tax dollars to do so.

Sadly, by the time you finish reading my letter, three innocent children will have been killed in a legal abortion here in the United States.

President Barack Obama nearly shut down the federal government instead of cutting taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion supplier.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote: "The care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the first and only object of good government." In modern American society, it is naive to suggest that government can be absent from this debate on human life. The government acts through law to regulate in areas much less fundamental than the right to life. The real issue is whether the government will fulfill its responsibility to protect and preserve life, or continue to allow this most fundamental right to be denied.
