Hancock Schools begin registration

NEW CUMBERLAND - Hancock County Schools will hold phone-in registration for pre-kindergarten for the 2013-2014 academic year from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25.

The parents and guardians of children who will be 4 years old before Sept. 1, 2013, may call (304) 564-3411, extension 3320 or 3322 to begin the registration process.

Registration will be explained over the phone, and a registration packet will be mailed to be completed at home.

In the Weirton area, registration will be accepted for classrooms at Broadview Elementary School, Liberty Elementary School, Northern Panhandle Head Start Pipinos Center, Weirton Heights Day Care and The Children's Academy.

In northern Hancock County, registration will be accepted for classrooms at New Manchester Elementary School, A.T. Allison Elementary School, Northern Panhandle Head Start Newell and The Tree House in Chester.

To complete registration, parents need the child's current immunization records, Social Security card and a state-certified birth certificate, signed by a state registrar and stamped with an official seal, from the Office of Vital Statistics in the state in which the child was born. Those applying for a Head Start site must have proof of income.

Children must undergo a mandatory screening in March, date to be announced.
