Moray claims district crown; Moffit off to states

HEATH - Six area wrestlers - Steubenville's Greg Moray, Anthony Craig, Anthony Parada, Tariq Wilson and Mark Cole and Indian Creek's Kyle Moffit - have qualified for the Ohio State Wrestling Championships next week in Columbus.

Moray won the 220-pound title Saturday at the Division II district tournament at Heath High School.

He defeated Mifflin's Jalen Robinson, 7-3, to claim the crown and beat Claymont's Gerrett Harding, 8-5, in the semifinals.

Craig dropped an 8-1 decision to Claymont's Cody Burcher in the 126-pound final. Craig had won his first three matches by wide margins.

Parada lost a 5-3 decision to Tri-Valley's Kade Kowalski at 132 pounds. Parada defeated New Philadelphia's Maverick Meets, 14-6, in the semifinals.

Moffit dropped an 8-3 decition to Burcher in the 126-pound semifinals.

He came back to beat Morgan's Hayden Matheney, 3-2, in the consolation semifinal, then pinned Buckeye Valley's DeShawn Hanyes in 1:37 for third place.

Wilson came back at 106-pounds to take third after losing to Claymont's Tyler Warner, 12-2, in the semifinals. He beat Whitehall-Yearling's Noah Jay, 10-2, then pinned Dover's Corey Marshall in 3:43.

Cole lost to Highland's Jeremy Johnson, 18-13, in the quarterfinals, then won three matches before losing to Claymont's Matt Dennis by fall for third place.

Big Red's Andrew O'Dell took fifth at 160 and Brandon Jones sixth at 195.

Buckeye Local's Nate Kirk finished sixth at 138.

Steubenville Catholic Central's Blake placed fifth in the Division III district tournament in Philo.

He defeated Sandy Valley's Evan Offenberger, 3-2, for fifth place at 120 pounds.
