Voters decide fate of local levies
STEUBENVILLE - Four levies for communities in Jefferson County were approved by voters in the primary election on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the county board of elections.
Voters in Adena approved a replacement levy in the amount of 2 mills for current expenses by a vote of 82-31.
Village voters also approved a renewal of a 5-mill levy for emergency medical services, with 86 voters in favor and 28 against.
Voters in Bergholz approved a renewal of a 1.5-mill levy for current expenses by a vote of 59-15.
Saline Township voters approved an additional levy of 2 mills for current expenses by a vote of 113-99.
Windsor Heights home involved in probe
WINDSOR HEIGHTS - The FBI, Marshall County Search and Rescue Team and Windsor Heights Police were involved in a search of the backyard of a home at the intersection of Francis Avenue and Sarko Street at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Village Police Chief Ulrich Utt said the search came following a tip that human remains were buried in the yard and two items dug from the yard were sent for testing.
But he said neither item, before testing, helped to confirm or dispute the tip.
Utt said owners of the home, whose names he didn't release, cooperated with the search, which involved K-9 units.
Play Thursday to address drug abuse
WEIRTON - The Weir High Advanced Theatre Class will present "Choices," a play about drug and alcohol abuse and making wise decisions, at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school's Milton Weinberg Theater.
The play is presented in cooperation with Advocates for Substance Abuse Prevention, which also will present three public service announcements about prescription drug abuse set to air soon on local television stations.
Buckeye board sets special meeting
DILLONVALE - The Buckeye Local Board of Education will meet in special session at 8 a.m. Friday in the administrative office to discuss personnel, sale of property, field trips and boardmanship.
Benefit dinner for Terry A. Dear Sr.
TORONTO - A benefit spaghetti dinner for Terry A. Dear Sr. of Toronto will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Belvedere Volunteer Fire Department.
The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Carry-out will be available. The fundraiser also will include a Chinese auction and a 50/50 drawing.
A graduate of Edison High School, Dear is a single father and Army veteran who served in Iraq.
He suffered a spinal cord injury in July, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Dear has been approved for stem cell therapy. All proceeds from the benefit will be used for medical expenses.
An account has been established in Dear's name at JPMorgan Chase Bank, Wintersville.

Registrations being taken for Car Cruze
WEIRTON - The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitor's Bureau is taking registrations for Car Cruze 2013 set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 31 at the Weirton Event Center, 3322 East St.
All modified cars, motorcycles and trucks are eligible. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 registrants. Registration is free. There will be drawings and door prizes.
The bands 40+ and De Ja Vu will provide entertainment.
