WEIRTON - On Tuesday, Weirton Medical Center officially unveiled its new state-of-the-art Inpatient Rehabilitation Center.

The new department provides an opportunity for those requiring long-term rehabilitation to stay close to home while going through their rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, located on the hospital's seventh floor, is for patients requiring a minimum of three hours of rehabilitation each day, five days a week.

Services are provided for patients recovering from stroke, heart disease, lung disease, orthopedic surgeries, hip fractures and other conditions.

The staff will guide each patient through their treatment just steps away from private hospital rooms, which come equipped with newly renovated bathrooms, patient-friendly shower areas, armoires, and flat-screen televisions.

Patients being considered for the center's programs will go through a screening process prior to admission. The screening includes a preliminary review of the patient's condition and previous medical record.

The new department is among several construction projects and upgrades which have been taking place at the hospital in recent months.
