Legion Auxiliary plans upcoming events

The American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on July 15 at the American Legion Post 10 Hall in Weirton.

President Shirley Brecht called the meeting to order and presided over the business session.

Chaplain Marcy Spano gave the invocation and Brecht led The Pledge of Allegiance and members joined the her in reciting The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.

The roll call of officers was given by Secretary Clara Robinson as she read the minutes from the June 17 meeting.

Treasurer Gloria Jerrel gave the financial report which was approved as read and stands for audit.

Commucations Clara Robinson read letters from the girls who went to Girls State, recieved a thank you letter from The Veteran Hospital in Pittsburgh for the donation sent by the auxiliary.

The Steak Fry will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion. It is given by the Sons of Legions.

On Thursday, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will be at the Mary H. Weir library at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served by several members from local organizations in Weirton.

The picnic will be Aug. 18.

The auxiliary made a motion to hold a fundraiser drawing for the picnic. The tickets will be six for $5 to sell.

The auxiliary will be doing a cabbage roll sale on Sept. 14 at the American Legion Hall. Cabbage rolls will be made on Sept. 13 starting at 9 a.m, and the sale will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring their own container.

The Veterans Day dinner will be Oct. 27. More information will be made available as the event gets closer.

The auxiliary will have its annual Christmas Party on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Undo's in Weirton.

Vice President Pat Folden received a new membership from Lois Curcone, who is the daughter of club member Louis Tassey. She has been voted in as a new member.

Refreshments for the evening were served by Loretta Fabian and Clara Robinson. Next month, Pat Folden and Chris Boyd will serve.

The 50/50 was won by Wanda Perrone. The next meeting will be Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned by Brecht with the closing prayer by Spano.
