Weirton Daily Times
Brooke High School graduate Eric Johnson, who was a four year letterman for the Bruins boys basketball team, received a $10,000 college scholarship from the Kaylee Scholarship Association during ceremonies at Dee Jay’s Restaurant Sunday. The Brooke basketball team participated in the KSA Holiday Basketball Tournament at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., in December. A player on each of the 65 boys basketball teams that participated in the tournament received a $250 book scholarship, making them eligible to submit an essay written to themselves about how basketball affected their lives. Johnson, the son of Lori and Ed Johnson of Wellsburg, had his essay selected for one of three $10,000 scholarships awarded. From left, Dave Reitter, Brooke head basketball coach; Erin Grogan, sales manager for KSA Events; Johnson, who plans to attend the University of Charleston on a basketball scholarship; Jackie Robinson, athletic director at Brooke; and Kathy Kidder, superintendent of Brooke County Schools.
