Healthy heart class to be held

Wednesday at senior center

FOLLANSBEE - Pharmacist Beth Ann Fink of Follansbee Pharmacy will hold a healthy heart class at noon Wednesday at the Brooke Senior Center located on Main Street.

Anyone affected by heart disease is welcome to attend. To register for the class, call the pharmacy at (304) 527-1004.

Church to hold family fun day

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - The Oakland Free Methodist Church will hold a back to school family fun day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 24 at the facility located at 1551 Etruria St.

The event includes food, games, clowns, balloon animals, face-painting, science experiments, sidewalk chalk art contests, music and an old-fashioned cake walk.

Door prizes, including two new children's bicycles, will be awarded.

The event is free and open to the public.

Society to hold cultural lecture

AVELLA, Pa. - The A.D. White Research Society will hold the annual Anthony Valenti Memorial Cultural Lecture and reservation dinner at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at St. Michael's Church Hall.

Wildlife artist Frank Hnat of Hickory will be the guest speaker.

A tribute also will be paid to Valenti's memory and his work with the society.

Meals will cost $13 each, and those attending may send a check to St. Michael's Church, 95 Highland Ave., Avella, PA 15312. Those making reservations are asked to note whether they want a stuffed chicken breast or Salisbury steak.

Community health fair scheduled

BURGETTSTOWN - A community health fair, sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Ann churches' health ministry, will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at McCashin Hall located at 1111 Main St.

The event will include free health screenings, including blood pressure, hearing and dental, and flu shots. It also will include prescription reviews and information on massage and physical therapy.

Vendors include Weirton Medical Center, FamCare, Rite Aid, Washington Health Systems, Natural Health and Wellness, Mental Health with Pauline Amaismeier, Canonsburg Hospital, Cornerstone Care Dental, Rep. Jesse White, Nicki's Magic Touch Massage and Aging Services of Washington County.

Admission is free and parking is available. Snacks and giveaways will be available.

Society holding memorial

ELDERSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson Township Historical Society will hold a memorial to honor the victims and survivors of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Jefferson Township War Memorial located at Cedar Grove and Fire roads.

Diane Huggins will give tributes to terrorists attack victims, and Emma Gragan will sing.

A social with refreshments will be held immediately afterward in the White Church.
