Barons drop opener

STEUBENVILLE — The Franciscan University of Steubenville men’s basketball team dropped its season-opener to Chatham, 77-64, Tuesday evening.

“I am definitely disappointed in the loss tonight, but the good thing is we have a lot of really good young players,” said head coach Joe Wallace.

In his first game in a Baron uniform, sophomore Juwan Perkins posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while freshman Josh York came off the bench and drained 15 points, including going 6-for-7 from the floor.

The Barons head to the Pepsi Tipoff Tournament hosted by Susquehana University. Franciscan plays King’s (Pa.) in the first game of the tournament on Friday at 6 p.m.

Panthers seeking head coach

RAYLAND — Buckeye Local High School is taking applications for the position of head football coach.

FYBL to hold sign-ups

FOLLANSBEE — Registration will be held for the Follansbee Youth Basketball League from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday for Brooke County School students in grades 4-6 at the Follansbee Middle School Fieldhouse.

Everyone must sign-up. Cost is $40 per person and $15 per additional family member. It includes game shirt and shorts.

Big Red selling tickets

STEUBENVILLE — Tickets for Friday’s 7:30 p.m. game between Steubenville and Shelby at Paul Brown Stadium in Massillon will be on sale until 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the high school.

Presale tickets are $8. Tickets are $9 at the gate. There are no student tickets.
