STEUBENVILLE — The offense compiled 483 yards and scored on its first two possessions as Big Red rolled to an impressive 37-7 season-opening victory over first-time opponent Upper St. Clair on Aug. 25.

Javon Davis completed 13-of-19 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. He fired scoring strikes to DaJuan Jones (4 yards), Gino Pierro (27 yards) and Johnny Agresta (49 yards). Pierro finished with four catches, while Jones hauled in three.

The rushing attack yielded 213 yards. Junior Caleb Mitchell, making his first career start, ran for 81 yards on 17 trips. He also caught three passes for another 85. He scored on a 25-yard sprint up the middle.

Defensively, Steubenville held the WPIAL Class 5A Panthers in check, allowing just 51 rushing yards, recording several sacks, recovering a couple of fumbles and forcing seven punts.

Junior kicker Ian Phillips bounced a 23-yard field goal through the uprights.
