Wheeling Park eliminates Brooke from tourney

GLEN DALE — Wheeling Park earned the right to face John Marshall by beating Brooke 1-0 in an elimination game Wednesday afternoon.

Maddie Osborne went the distance for the Patriots, earning a shutout victory. Wheeling Park scored its lone run in the third as Kins singled home Kesley Chacalos.

Brooke thought it had tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. The Bruins had the bases loaded with no outs. A flyout to right field was caught on a diving play by Ree Walker, but the throw to home to get Brookeás Megan Cross was late.

Unfortunately for Brooke, the third base umpire said Cross didnát tag up and was called out. Two batters later, Park was able to get the last out on a grounder to third.

The Bruins end their season at 15-7.

âI am so proud of our kids and I thought Rachel (Kazmirski) pitched a great game against a great team,ã Brooke coach Jim DiCarlo said. âWe had our chances but sometimes you just donát catch a break. Our kids played their guts out and it has been a very nice year. We hit the ball hard, we did everything we needed, but I have to give (Walker) credit, she made some really nice plays.

âI am happy with where the program is at now, but there is still room for improvement.ã
