Friends of Edison scramble set

EAST SPRINGFIELD — The 2018 Friends of Edison Golf Scramble will be held July 22 at Spring Hills Golf Club.

Proceeds will help promote the renewal of the district’s 5.9-mill operating levy this fall. The measure, which was last passed in the spring of 2014, would provide $1.2 million annually during a five-year period. Superintendent Bill Beattie said the funding would assist with general operations and fill a financial gap left with a loss of revenue from FirstEnergy Corp.

Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Space is limited to 32 teams. The cost is $60 per golfer and the four-person scramble will include prize money for the top three teams, a 50/50 drawing, skins and skill prizes, a continental breakfast, light lunch and dinner.

The event will include Dixon Golf and Aurelius challenges, at additional charges of $10 and $20 respectively.

Corporate sponsors include International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 246 of Steubenville, DeNoon Lumber of Bergholz and Riley Petroleum of Toronto, while TS Electric of Richmond is the golf ball sponsor. Rawson’s Mulch & More of Knoxville is the prize sponsor. Other sponsorships are available. For details, contact Beattie at (740) 282-0065.
