Travis’ late heroics lifts Oak Glen boys

NEW MANCHESTER — With the game tied in the final minute, Oak Glen senior Ethan Travis capped off a big day by scoring a bucket, drawing a foul and making the free throw for what turned out to be the final lead change of the game at the Golden Bears defeated Region 1 foe North Marion, 57-52, Saturday afternoon.

Travis finished with a game-high 22 points, scoing 10 buckets and making 2 of 3 free throws. He finished with a double-double, pulling down 18 rebounds to lead Oak Glen off the glass.

The Golden Bears (15-3) opened up a 25-20 halftime lead and led by 11 points entering the fourth quarter, where North Marion (11-9) clawed back for the late tie.

Zach Taylor followed up Travis with 13 points, while Sean Smith hit Oak Glen’s only 3-pointer and finished in double-digits with 12 points. Gage Patterson led Oak Glen with five assists.

North Marion was led by Micheal Garrett with 13 points.

Oak Glen is back in action on Tuesday, hosting St. Clairsville in the OVAC tournament Class 4A semifinals.

FAIRMONT — The Weir High boys basketball team lost at East Fairmont on Saturday, 69-55.

The Red Riders (13-6) had three players reach double-digits in the loss, led by Elijah Gillette’s 16 points. Luka Haught finished with 15, while Reed Reitter netted 10.

Weir High is back in action in OVAC consolation play on Tuesday, playing at Union Local.
