Kelley, Jones, other locals qualify for finals Saturday

The Division II track and field East District meets began on Thursday, with several local athletes qualifying for Saturday’s finals.

Big Red, Indian Creek and Buckeye Local competed at Meadowbrook, while Edison and Harrison Central competed at West Holmes.


For Big Red, on the girls side, T’Kayla Kelley qualified first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 12.56, 26.95 and 1:01.97. Also in the 400, Natirah Turner qualified in eighth with a 1:05.32. The girls 4×100 relay unit of Aubrey Thompson, Isabella Yetts, Autumn Harris and Sierra Sears qualified eighth with a 56.38. The 4×200 relay unit of Thompson, Yetts, Turner and Harris qualified eighth with a 1:57.57. In girls shot put, Amya Livingston qualified second with a throw of 36-11.50.

On the boys side, Steubenville’s Jorian Jones won the 200 meter dash with a 23.03 and the long jump with a 22-02.50. Anthony Rice qualified second with a 15.21 in the 110 meter hurdles, while Dalan Livingston was fifth in the same event with a 16.14. Caleb Mitchell qualified third in the 100 with an 11.65. Rice qualified second in the 300 hurdles with a 40.32, while Dalan Livingston was seventh with a 44.76. The 4×200 unit of Tayveon Montgomery, Rice, Mitchell and Jones qualified second with a 1:32.02. The 4×100 unit of Montgomery, Rice, Jones and Mitchell was also second with a 44.73.

For Indian Creek on the girls side, Allyson Tweedy qualified fifth in the 400 meter dash with a 1:03.79, while Rileigh Gualtiere followed in sixth with a 1:04.34. Abby Copeland was fifth in the 300 hurdles with a 51.61. The 4×800 relay unit of Tweedy, Copeland, Gualtiere and Sloane Lewis qualified first with a 10:06.85. The 4×400 unit of Tweedy, Copeland, Gualtiere and Lewis was also first with a 4:15.17.

For the Redskins boys, Logan Davis qualified first with a 51.21 in the 400 meter dash. Roan Kovach was sixth with a 53.17. Davis qualified second in the 200 dash with a 23.32. Shane Kosec was eighth in the 110 hurdles with a 17.47. The 4×400 relay team of Kovach, Kosec, Davis and Russell Lough qualified fifth with a 3:41.04.

Buckeye Local’s Jacob Pielech qualified in two events. He was second in the 400 dash with a 51.64, and fourth in the 200 with a 23.47.


For Harrison Central’s girls team, Destiny Arnold qualified seventh in the 400 meter dash with a 1:06.77. The 4×800 relay team of Sydney Starr, Jasmine Arnold, Gemma Downs and Destiny Arnold was fourth with a 10:28.53. The 4×200 relay team of Catalina Sierra, Jenna Easlick, Kerstin Jeffries and Mackinize Ferguson was eighth with a 2:06.83. The 4×400 relay team of Downs, Destiny Arnold, Jasmine Arnold and Starr was eighth with a 4:33.98.

On the boys side for the Huskies, the 4×800 relay unit of Logan Laney, Jakob Cowans, Sam McClelland and Eric Leech qualified eighth with a 8:31.22. The 4×400 unit of Arik Carman, Cowans, Kanyan Coleman and Luke Forrester was sixth with a 4:37.67.

For Edison, Holly Valentine qualified seventh in the 300 meter hurdles with a 52.94. Faith Hoobler was fourth in the shot put with a 33-03.25. Bryce McAfoose qualified first in the 300 hurdles with a 42.78. Jacob Cusick was third in the 400 dash with a 53.66.
