RICHMOND — The multi-week journey of the Steubenville baseball team traveling to face Edison concluded on Friday.

The game originally started a few weeks back, with the Wildcats leading by one run in the top of the second inning before rain postponed the contest. Both teams agreed to resume the contest after both won sectional titles and have a few days rest before the district tournament begins on Monday.

After Big Red spotted that early run, it was lights out Friday and continued its hot streak, defeating the Wildcats 3-1.

J.T. Thompson finished what he started on the mound and picked up the victory. He went five innings, allowed the run on one hit, four walks and no strikeouts. Niko Kausky picked up the save in relief, striking out one and walking one in two innings.

At the plate, Scotty Mitchell collected two singles, a double and an RBI. Kausky had two singles and an RBI, while Calvin Bickerstaff scored on a wild pitch. Dom DeFrances, Caesen Sutton and Luke Zorne also singled.

For Edison (20-6), Alec McBane started and did not allow a run in 1 1/3 innings. Isaac Schmitz took the loss in relief, walking two and striking out none in 2 2/3 innings. Brennan Scott pitched the final three frames, allowing a run on two hits.

McBane tallied the only RBI for the Wildcats on a double. Anthony Sinicropi tallied the other hit, which was a single.

Out of Edison’s six defeats, two have come against Big Red (21-6). It fell 5-1 on April 17 in Steubenville. In both games combined, the Wildcats have tallied three hits.
