Jefferson County gets another doubleheader sweep over Post 205

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Post 33 earned another doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon.

Post 33 defeated Tuscarawas County Post 205, 12-1 and 11-3, at Vaccaro Field.

The wins give Post 33 a record of 8-1.

In the first game, Post 205 scored in the top of the first, but Jefferson County starter Trevor Boggess shut them down the rest of the way, tossing a complete game (five innings) with six strikeouts and four walks.

Jefferson County scored three times in each the bottom of the first and second innings to take control, then, after adding one run to the lead in the third, plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to enact the mercy rule when Boggess put up a zero in the top of the fifth.

Post 33 recorded 10 hits, led by two each from Andrew Kinney and Clayton Criss. Kinney also had a pair of RBIs. Noah Fayak had a triple and two RBIs. George Ash and Evan Lewis also plated runs for Post 33. Klay Cottis and Josh Maurer also had hits in the 12-1 win.

In the second game, five different pitchers combined to pitch Post 33 to victory, 11-3.

Ryan Neely got the start on the mound and pitched the first three innings, striking out two and walking one. Branyon Wade, Alec McBane, Luke Zorne and Anthony Sinicropi all pitched one inning. Wade fanned two without issuing a walk, McBane walked two, Zorne recored a K and three walks and Sinicropi struck out the side in the seventh, with one walk.

Jefferson County recorded 11 hits.

Dom DeFrances had two hits and and two RBIs. Dom Argentine had two hits and an RBI. Fayak plated a run. Lewis doubled. Cottis plated a run with a base hit. Zorne drove in a run. Ash plated two runs with two hits, Boggess singled in a run and Caden Buxton doubled in a run.

Post 33 is back in action at 1 p.m. today for a doubleheader with Wheeling Post 1 at the I-470 Complex. The two teams met twice in the past week, each winning in walk-off fashion at home.
