WINTERSVILLE — Before the high school baseball season gets underway, Indian Creek’s Klay Cottis signed his letter of intent Wednesday to continue his academic and baseball careers at Frederick Community College in Maryland.

Last season, Cottis hit .486 for the Redskins with 36 hits, eight doubles, two triples, 14 RBIs, 27 runs and 17 stolen bases. For Jefferson County Post 33, he hit .453 with 43 hits, seven doubles, two triples, a home run, 28 RBIs, 32 runs and 16 walks.

For his efforts, he was a first-team Buckeye 8, first-team East-District, All-OVAC and Prep Baseball Report All-Ohio member.

“As Klay’s coach, I can honestly say Frederick is getting a young man who works extremely hard and has a true passion for the game,” Creek head coach and his father Mike Cottis said. “He is walking into a great situation where he can further develop and get stronger before he makes a leap to a four-year school if he desires. Athletically, Klay has a huge ceiling because of his physical traits, and going the JUCO route is a very smart decision.

“As Klay’s father, I can’t put into words how proud Kendra and I are of him. Klay will be part of a program that is a national powerhouse annually. He and coach (Rodney) Bennett really clicked and our family is very excited to see this next phase of his academic and athletic career. It is well deserved.”
